As hard as may seem to turn down or ignore those pregnancy cravings or eat everything is sight, you can do it. You can do it to keep your weight down and avoid gaining too much weight during pregnancy. Here are a few tips on how to keep the weight off while pregnant. - Avoid eating too many sweets or drinking too many sweet drinks. Even when you are not pregnant your body will crave sweets when you are hungry, this is known as a “quick fix” to your hunger situation. Instead, carry some fruit in your bag, you may even want to try taking along some fruit and cereal bars. This will give you the nutrients your body needs and will satisfy your hunger. - Instead of having something sweet to drink try drinking juice. Make sure you are drinking 100% juice and not fruit drinks. Fruit drinks are made up of mostly sugar and are not good for you or your baby. - Try to avoid eating too many processed foods. The more foods you eat that are not processed the more likely you are to keep the weight off. - Eat lots and lots of protein. Stay away from the starches, these will only make you eat more and gain more weight. - Drink water more often than usual. It may be hard for you to separate the feeling of hunger and that of thirst, so before you go grab a big lunch try drinking a bottle of water. Many times you body will feel dehydrated making you feel as though you are hungry when all you need is some water. Water will also make you feel less hungry if you drink while eating. Keep in mind that the less weight you gain during your pregnancy, the easier it will be on during birth. Also, keeping the weight off while pregnant will help to get back into your pre-pregnancy jeans faster and easier.
